In short, it is similar to brainstorming, but has its own rules and often gives very interesting results. In the classic "brainstorming" we define a problem and when looking for a solution, we switch ideas, we filter out the worst and look for the best.
The SCAMPER method does not allow such freedom. Its name comes from the first letters of English words that show us what to follow when developing a specific issue:
- S - Substitute
- C - Combine
- A - Adapt
- M - Magnify
- P - Put to Another Use
- E - Eliminate
- R - Reverse
It is a very helpful and liked technique by marketing specialists, especially if we want to come up with something unusual that would attract customers' attention and be remembered by them.
When I was introduced to it, it turned out that I had been using it almost since birth. Especially "S", "A" and "P". If you need to hammer a nail into the wall, and you don't have a hammer, you can use the replacement method to grab the cast-iron lid of the pot (I grabbed it at least) and hammer the nail (and I did). When there is no screwdriver, and you need to screw the door to the wardrobe, you can use a knife.
These are the simplest examples of using SCAMPER. Something more original? Here you are. During marketing training, this technique is often discussed in connection with the issue of what kind of advertisement should be recorded to make it interesting not only for the recipient, but also for the search engine’s algorithm. Here you have to think a little. The ad must be original and eye-catching, the same as everyone else has, but different. Suppose we are a shoe manufacturer and we produce cool sports shoes, there is a lot to be proud of. If we prepare an advertising film where the actor / actress runs in the forest, overcomes obstacles, climbs in a rope park and all this takes place in a nice scenery. It will be a correct film, but boring from a marketing point of view. And what is worse, potential customers will probably either forget about it immediately after watching it, or they will close it before it can be fully recreated. And what movie will be more interesting and memorable for the viewers? One where E is used, where it is shown how to tie shoes ... ELIMINATING one hand. Such an advertisement will surely be remembered by viewers, provoke reflection, and will also be better assessed by the search engine's algorithm.
Enough of these digressions - if I professionally deal with wounds, it will be about plasters. At the same time, you will be able to practice manual, spatial, creative and even musical skills - yours and your child's.
I propose to awaken your creativity and think about what you can do to attract your child's attention. What kind of art game to organise when we are sitting in the waiting room at the doctor's and the waiting time is extended. We don't have any toys with us, but we do have plasters in our purse (they should always be there, just in case!). By solving this task, I will show you how SCAMPER works.
S - Substitute
Let's replace the pieces of tissue paper or coloured cutouts (which we don't have) with plasters. On a sheet of paper (usually there are pieces of paper or colouring books and crayons for children in waiting rooms), we can stick houses, people, toy cars and trees, generally everything that comes to mind, and is not too complicated.
C - Combine
We need four more or less identical pieces of paper, 4 Happy Tattoo plasters with characters - a mouse, a crab, a fish and a funny insect. We stick one plaster to each piece of paper, and at the same time connect it with a crayon - we get 4 puppets with which you can play a theatre by playing out a simple story.
A - Adapt
Since we are in the clinic, this is the perfect situation to play doctor. Mum's purse is a doctor's bag. The child is a doctor. Mom plays the role of different patients, and one by one goes to the "doctor" and tells him stories such as - "I climbed a tree high, wiped my knee, I would like a plaster".
M - Magnify
How many plasters can I put on one finger? How much will it be? 5 or 8? Check it out by sticking (slowly) on the baby's finger.
P - Put to Another Use
How else can the plaster be used? Maybe as a memory game. Put the plasters with the imprint face down ( HAPPY TATTOO will fit perfectly) and open the sachets one by one, looking for a pair. Whoever finds more pairs wins.
E - Eliminate
Playing a little scientist - what will happen if we detach the absorbent pad from the plaster? Can the plaster be torn with your hands? Can this little pillow be a teddy bear's pillow (we draw an outline teddy bear if we don't have any at hand)?
R - Reverse
Oh, I think they are calling us to the office. We will use this letter during our next visit!
